Operating Room Sant Joan de Déu

The lighting in operating rooms is one of the most determining factors to ensure the precision, safety, and well-being of both medical staff and patients. Proper lighting not only improves visibility during procedures but also influences visual ergonomics, concentration, and spatial perception within the surgical environment.

At Luxes, we had the privilege of participating in one of the most innovative milestones in the hospital sector in Spain. We developed a custom lighting project for the operating rooms of the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu, one of the leading pediatric centers in Europe. The goal was to create a visually optimal, hygienic, and functional environment, where LED technology would integrate with hospital architecture to provide a complete experience of efficiency, comfort, and precision.

A project that redefines lighting in operating rooms

The eight operating rooms in this new block, spread over 2,200 m², are equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment such as intraoperative magnetic resonance imaging, portable CT scans, and hybrid arches. For us, it was essential that the lighting not only met the highest technical standards but also became an active tool in the functionality, precision, and safety of each procedure. That is why a solution was designed to address the emotional and operational needs of the spaces, combining energy efficiency, advanced lighting control, and a clean, harmonious design.

The Luxes proposal included:

• • High color rendering index (CRI>95) LED luminaires, essential for ensuring the accurate perception of skin tones and fabrics.​

  • Cold and warm light depending on the phase of the procedure or the use of the space.
  • Recessed and linear profiles with high airtightness (IP65) that ensure easy cleaning and prevent particle accumulation.​
  • Dynamic RGB lighting in key areas such as anesthetic induction and postoperative recovery, creating warmer and less invasive atmospheres for pediatric patients.
